The reception for the exhibition, UPSTATE: Photographs by Tema Stauffer, at the Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University will take place on Thursday, November 29from 5-8pm. Alison Nordström, who contributed an essay to the recent monograph published by Daylight Books, will present a lecture about this body of work at the museum at 5pm sponsored by the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts. Nordström is an independent scholar, writer and curator based in Cambridge, Massachusetts specializing in historical and contemporary photographs of all kinds. Formerly the Director and Senior Curator of the Southeast Museum of Photography, (Florida) and Senior Curator of Photographs/Director of Exhibitions at George Eastman House, (New York) she is the author of over 100 published books and essays on photographic topics and has curated over 100 photographic exhibitions in nine countries. The UPSTATE exhibition of twenty-five color photographs is on view at Reece Museum through December 14.

UPSTATE: Photographs by Tema Stauffer is on view at the Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University from October 22 – December 14. The Mary B. Martin School of the Arts has sponsored a lecture with photo historian Alison Nordström at the reception for this exhibition on Thursday, November 29 at 5pm. I will present an artist talk through the Women on Wednesdays lecture series on November 7 at noon. Author Xhenet Aliu will give a reading from the foreword to UPSTATE published by Daylight Books as well as selections from her novel Brass published by Random House in 2018 on Wednesday, October 24 at 5pm.

Selections from UPSTATE received First Prize in ilon Art Gallery’s Annual Juried Competition. Thank you to curator Ruben Natal-San Miguel and jurors Loni Efron, David Rosenberg, Hannah Frieser, and Jon Feinstein. An exhibition of work by all of the artists, American Splendour: New Photography, is on view until July 25. The gallery is located at 204 W. 123rd Street in Harlem and is open by appointment.
